Tips for Traveling with Jewelry
Share
Sun’s out, buns out! Or more like, jewelry out! Summer is the best time to travel and what better occasion to whip out all that jewelry and let it shine under the sun? Besides, with traveling comes cute pictures, so you want to make sure that all your outfits are accented by the right jewelry pieces. But before you go throwing every bracelet into your suitcase or getting your necklaces all tangled up, let's step back to choose the right pieces and pack them safely. Really, the last thing you want to do is end up with mismatched earrings or scuffed pieces when you’re hundreds or thousands of miles away from home!
Take Inventory
First off, lay out all your jewelry to decide what you’ll be taking with you. Traveling gets hectic, and you don’t want to stress over whether you lost your favorite ring in the hotel room or if you just left it at home. Honestly, as tempting as it may be, we recommend not bringing anything too valuable. You can come back and wear them at full force once you’ve had your stress-free vacation!
Pack It Up
Unless your jewelry box is really compact, chances are you won’t be lugging the entire thing with you. So, invest in a jewelry travel case or a little bag where you can keep all your jewelry in one place. Also, if you’re flying, make sure that your jewelry stays in your purse or carry-on. You definitely don’t want anything getting crushed or broken when your luggage is thrown around or stuffed into the overhead compartments.
Remove When Necessary
I know, I know, you’re busy when you’re traveling! It might be back to back activities and you might not even get a chance to do a pit-stop at your hotel. But when you are able to, make sure you’re removing the pieces when necessary to keep the longevity and shine of your jewelry. For example, if you’re swimming, it might just be a better idea to take your necklace off, rather than have it be ruined by the pool’s chlorine. Don’t worry, you can pop it right back on when you’re off to that fancy dinner at the end of the night!
What to Bring?
Okay, now that we’ve gone through all the cautionary stuff, let’s get to the fun part- which pieces do you bring? Well, since your space is limited, we advise that you bring mostly simple, versatile pieces. That way, regardless of how you’re mixing and matching the clothes you brought, everything will look cohesive. Jewelry like basic hoops or studs, pearl necklaces, and a ring with minimal detail are excellent choices. However, if you’re anticipating an event in which you’re going to really have to glam it up, have no shame! Take a statement piece or two with you!
